⚠This calculator estimates the cost of importing into KOREA only — every rate and the currency (KRW) are Korean. It does not apply to the United States, where duty, the Section 232 25-year exemption, the HS-7 and EPA 3520-1 filings and state registration all work differently; see 'Importing a Used Car from Japan to the U.S.' There is no Korea–Japan agreement rate for cars, so duty is calculated at the standard 8%; a certificate of origin does not lower it. American and European brands are also dutied at 8% when they come from Japan — the 0% rates under the Korea–US and Korea–EU FTAs apply only to cars shipped directly from those territories, and a car already cleared, registered and driven in Japan fails the direct-consignment rule (KORUS Art. 6.13; Korea–EU Origin Protocol Art. 13). Claiming 0% leads to duty and penalty assessed later, and the liability sits with the importer of record. Korean acquisition tax, paid to the local government at registration, is not included. Rates current as of September 2026. For a U.S. landed-cost estimate, contact us for a per-car quote.
